About

Who am I? I’m a proud Navy wife since 1999.

Why is this blog titled “Slightly Salty?” Because I have been through 2 deployments in 8 years but that number is low compared to other Navy spouses. So, while I’m not the most seasoned spouse on the planet, I have been on the deployment roller coaster a few times and lived in 4 states.

What is this blog about? This blog is about being a Navy wife, and having survived my husband’s most recent deployment as a “sandbox sailor” (Individual Augmentee or IA) in Iraq, and any other random thoughts that pop into my head.

Articles and resources on Individual Augmentees (IA) will be posted periodically and hopefully be of some use.

  1. Dear Navy Wife,

I am writing, as a reader of your blog, to let you know about a movie I worked on called STOP LOSS (coming out in March).

The movie, which is about the policy of its title, has released a website that has given military wives and soldiers cameras and allowed them to make videos of their lives. Now they are answering questions online about what it’s like to serve and to be at home, etc. etc. The videos and the discussions are entirely non-political and are opening up the lives of military members to a public who largely knows nothing about them. The director of the film is also participating in the debate and allowing soldiers and the public to ask her questions about making a war movie and trying to accurately depict soldiers and military wives.

I would be honored if you could mention our site to your readers and help us bring more people into this important discussion and, regardless of the movie, help educate more people about what it’s like to be a soldier or military wife today. Either way, best of luck and thank you very much for your time. Feel free to shoot me any questions or comments you may have.

    All the best,

  2. I saw the trailer for this movie and I am expcited about seeing it. It looks good and it has my favorite actor (Ciaran Hinds) in it as well.

  3. Just wanted to know I posted your link and gave a tiny little blog entry on your site :)

    Have a fine Navy Day,
    ~Steph

  4. Hello there!

I don’t know much about the Navy–except my cousin’s in it. I’m an Army Wife myself. Found you on Spousebuzz. I’m adding you to my blogroll :)
