Explaining the gap
I realized after reading my last post that some may be confused and think that the last 6 years was just a bowl full of Navy fun here. So let me do some ‘splaining about that 6 year gap for those that don’t know. The first two years, he was on a ship that happened to be in the yards for most of that time and then didn’t have much workup time involved before he transitioned to shore duty. Then once he was on shore duty, after about a year in, he got selected to go to Iraq for a year and play soldier. Then he was back again for a year to finish his shore duty. And in the last 12 months, he spent 8 of those out of the state in school to prepare for his job on the ship. So, it hasn’t been a 6 year vacation with loads of time together. Granted, we have been luckier than many other Navy families in terms of deployments. However, we have spent our fair share of time apart too and the next 3 years isn’t looking too promising on spending much time together. And I’m just venting to vent. I know I “signed up” for this crazy lifestyle but that doesn’t mean I can’t bitch about it sometimes either.
