Under Construction

The other day I mentioned that our bathroom is undergoing some remodeling.  After we moved in two years ago, we knew right away we wanted to remodel our master bath.  It’s stuck in another decade and though it is functional, it’s outdated.  We decided recently that we’d tackle it now while Obi-Wan is still home b/c once he is attached to a ship again, it could get dicey trying to remodel with the unpredictability of ship life.  Without getting too detailed, the biggest part of the remodel will be construction of a custom tile shower with a small bench and a ginormous shower tower with several jets on it.  Our old shower is a single stall pre-fabricated piece of crap and we want a bigger shower so Obi-Wan is building it himself.  The new one will be twice the size of the old one so at least we won’t be bumping our arms on the walls and knocking stuff down all over the place anymore. 

So, Obi-Wan is a busy bee now tearing apart the master bath and remodeling. My dad and brother-in-law were involved in the demolition this past weekend much to their surprise. They innocently thought they were just coming down to VA to eat some turkey and get some good family time in. Suckers! 

Last Friday, Obi-Wan had my dad and bro-in-law help him destroy a wall, remove the shower and vanity/countertop, mirror, etc. Then they capped off the plumbing connections. Only the toilet remains right now.

The other night, Obi-Wan ripped up the linoleum floor and last night, he cut a hole in the floor where the shower drain is and did some stuff with the pipes.  Other than that, all of the bathroom furniture like tub, toilet, vanity, etc. has been ordered and we have all the tiles for the shower and floor. Things are progressing.

Luckily we have another full bathroom down the hall to use during the remodel.  The downside is that it’s a single sink vanity (unlike our double-sink vanity in the master bath) so we have to schedule our shower/getting ready time separately so we don’t knock each other out.
