What a difference
I’ve been frustrated walking Chocolate Dog for months now, as you may have read in previous posts. We’ve made good progress but he’s still a wild beast, no matter what. So, last night at Target, I broke down, after another frustrating walk, and bought a gentle leader.
I tried it out this evening on him and holy crap, it was like walking a different dog. He wasn’t happy about having it on but it’s only the first day. I made sure he was as comfortable as possible before taking him and Yellow Dog out on their walk. This was the first calm walk I’ve had with BOTH paws ever. I’m sorry I didn’t try this on him sooner but I thought the prong collar would be effective because it worked brilliantly on Yellow Dog when she was a puppy. Clearly, this is what works for him b/c it controls his head and that is everything when walking a dog. If you control the head, you control the dog’s entire body and that made the difference in him with pulling. He couldn’t pull b/c all I had to do was lightly tug on the leash and he slowed down. It was beautiful. ![]()

Yay for you and chocolate dog!
I may have to look into getting one of these for Charlie…
You should if Charlie pull when he walks. Chocolate dog isn’t terrible anymore but he still pulls enough that it fatigues my arm. I had no problems walking him with the gentle leader though. There was slack in the leash for the first time and it was awesome.
