My to-do list today

Posted on March 31, 2008. Filed under: Husband |

Obi-Wan wrote me out a list of things to do today for him since he’s got his hands full with man projects and such.  I knew everything that was on it except for one thing.  I read it after I got to work this morning and busted out laughing.  Read through to last item.  That’s [...]

IA article in the Navy Times

Posted on March 26, 2008. Filed under: IA Resources | Tags: |

I saw a few other bloggers out there discuss this article and I also wanted to write/comment about it.
As quoted in the article:
“Too often, IA families are completely forgotten about by parent commands,” said Adm. Mike Mullen, then-chief of naval operations, in a podcast released in September. “IA spouses have used the word ‘orphan’ to [...]

Adjustments

Posted on March 23, 2008. Filed under: Husband, Reintegration |

Things are plugging along here pretty well.  Obi-Wan has been home a week now and begun leaving his mark on the house again.  The fence that goes along our backyard has been replaced – the one that was freakishly ripped apart by gale force winds about 6 weeks ago.  He’s also started rearranging some things [...]

Random thoughts

Posted on March 21, 2008. Filed under: Deep Thoughts, Husband |

Obi-Wan is out with his friends tonight playing poker and I’m going out for a girls night out – in fact, having a sleepover with the girls.  I have the house to myself for about 90 minutes before leaving to go out.  It’s amazing how after being here by myself for a year and adjusting [...]

Thought-provoking

Posted on March 20, 2008. Filed under: Deep Thoughts |

Someone sent me this link today of an old Red Skelton performance discussing the Pledge of Allegiance back in the 1960’s.  There’s nothing I can say or add to this except “well said.”

Signs that he’s home

Posted on March 19, 2008. Filed under: Homecoming, Husband |

1.  My house suddenly has piles of stuff everywhere that Obi-Wan accumulated in Iraq.
2.  The toilet seat is never down anymore.
3.  His cologne lingers in the air.
4.  The grill has been fired up and used for the first time in months.
5.  His side of the bed is occupied by him and [...]

He’s Home!

Posted on March 15, 2008. Filed under: Homecoming, Husband, Iraq, Memories |

I can finally let that big breath out that I’ve been holding for the last twelve months.  He landed around 5:30 yesterday afternoon.  Before I get into the reunion story here, I want to give a huge Thank You to Operation – Welcome Home Maryland, a wonderful group of people I wrote about in an [...]

Final hours before homecoming

Posted on March 14, 2008. Filed under: Deployment, Husband |

I arrived at my parent’s safe and sound this morning to get ready for Obi-Wan’s return.  They live close to the airport where he’s flying into so the whole family is getting together here to come with me  later on. I have about 5-6 hours before he arrives.
It’s pandemonium in my parent’s house right now.  [...]

Seriously

Posted on March 14, 2008. Filed under: Current events/news |

On MSNBC this morning, there is a banner across the top of the website that says “Breaking News: President Bush says the economy is obviously going through a tough time.”
Really, no sh*t.  What a surprise!  Tell me something I don’t know.

Less public and media attention to war

Posted on March 13, 2008. Filed under: Current events/news, Iraq |

Interesting article on MSNBC today.  I think this is what many of us have been saying for quite some time now.  Only a very small percentage of people in this country are actually aware of what’s going on with the global war on terrorism (GWOT) or even pay attention to any media regarding same.
My only [...]
