Dogs and robots

Posted on February 29, 2008. Filed under: Dogs, Mindless drivel |

Interesting article here about how dogs and robots were fairly even when it comes to cheering up nursing home patients.  While that may be true, I’ll take my paws and their puppy kisses and beating hearts any day of the week.

Unserviceable

Posted on February 28, 2008. Filed under: Deep Thoughts, Husband, Iraq |

Obi-Wan sent me a picture of his hat that he’s been wearing for the last 12 months.  His friend made up the caption for the picture and I thought it would be nice to include in the blog.  It’s a sign that almost a year has passed now and this chapter of our lives will be closing.  [...]

IA articles

Posted on February 27, 2008. Filed under: IA Resources | Tags: |

I was trolling the Internet today looking for mention of IA in blogs and other sites and came across some news articles.  Some of these are over a year old but include things about IA deployments that I did not know.  Considering I’m almost through this year long deployment, there is so much I still [...]

Clumsy

Posted on February 25, 2008. Filed under: Mindless drivel |

I have been a serious klutz in the last few days.  I have no idea what my problem is but I need to pay attention to everything I do now to avoid a mishap.  While outside training the paws yesterday, I wasn’t watching where I was walking and walked right into our picnic table and [...]

R&R Leave and other IA stuff

Posted on February 21, 2008. Filed under: Deployment, IA Resources | Tags: |

A question was posted about R&R leave for these IA deployments so I’m going to answer this based on what is written in the IA Family Handbook.
Rest and Recuperation (R&R) leave is chargeable
leave available to give service members
rest from a combat zone. There are two types

1. A four day pass to safe locations [...]

Anticipation of Return

Posted on February 21, 2008. Filed under: Deep Thoughts, Deployment |

I decided to browse back through the blog today to generate something to talk about b/c my creative juices are bit low today.  Looking at an old post on the phases of deployment, I thought I would revisit this and talk about the phase I’m currently in – “anticipation of return.”  The site that I [...]

GI Bill expansion efforts

Posted on February 19, 2008. Filed under: Current events/news |

I’m throwing some newsworthy articles out today on this topic for people to stay in the loop.  We should all be paying attention to anything having to do with GI Bill benefits, among other things.  From what I’ve read, efforts are getting held up because of cost concerns.  But I say this: surely we can eliminate [...]

A case of the Mondays

Posted on February 18, 2008. Filed under: Complaints/Gripes/Whines |

I loathe Mondays because it’s the start of another week of getting up early and I’d rather sleep in.  I love sleep in ways that can’t be explained and usually on Sunday nights, I never manage to get a decent night’s rest.  My mind is usually turned on and it’s hard to get the wheels [...]

28 Days

Posted on February 15, 2008. Filed under: Deployment, Husband, Things that make me feel awesome |

A countdown has commenced … of sorts.  I’m still only thinking in terms of weeks, not days.  But today when I woke up it hit me – exactly 28 days from now, Obi-Wan and I will be waking up together.  His tentative return date is March 14.  As far as we both know, he’ll be [...]
